第一回　収納付きスノコベンチ

スノコって、聞いただけで浮かぶ情景があります。
掃き清められた門口。縁台で決まって始まる将棋。まわりでは子供たちがコマ回しやなわとびで遊んでいる。トントントン、台所から聞こえてくる夕げのしたく。今ではほとんどなくなった風情（フゼイ）が甦ってきます。

[スノコベンチの作り方]
ショップで売っているスノコを活用して簡単に作れるベンチです。座面は開閉式になっていて、上げると中は広い収納スペース。背もたれを工夫すれば縁台スタイルの椅子の出来上がりです。

▼必要な道具	キリ、差し金、鉛筆、ノコギリ　　ゲンノウ、クギシメ、　　ドライバー、サンドペーパー
▼必要な材料	(A)幅27.5×厚さ3.7×長さ85cmのスノコ３枚、　　(B)幅18×厚さ3.7×長さ85cmのスノコ１枚、　　角材（幅3.5×厚さ2.5×長さ25.5㎝）４本、レンガ６個、　　　Ｌ字金具４個、蝶番２個、　　クギ、木ネジ、木工用接着剤

切る・打つ・塗る、の基本を覚えるのに最適

４枚のスノコと板、脇に置いたレンガだけで作るスノコベンチ。スノコは９８０円から売っているありふれたアイテムですが、探せば実にいろいろな幅や長さのスノコが出ています。板を切って作るよりずっと手軽で安価なＤＩＹにうってつけ。これは、一見するとリビング家具にも通用する立派なベンチですが、Ｌ字に固定した背板をバタリと後ろに倒せば、思いのほかゆったりとした収納スペースが現れる多機能ベンチ。庭に面したベランダの奥行きにちょうどマッチする幅のスノコなら、熊手など手持ちの道具をぴったりと納められるガーデニング道具の収納ケースになります。ウッディな外観は庭の雰囲気にもよく合い、ふだんはゆったりと腰をかけ、リラックスタイムを楽しめます。切る、打つ、塗る、といったＤＩＹの基本を覚えるのにぴったりのアイテム。初心者にもおすすめです。

スノコは安価でサイズが豊富なので、アイデアが無限に広がる。どのスノコを選ぶかは、どんなものを中に収納するかで決める。初心者が技術を学ぶにはうってつけのアイテムだ。

＜作業手順＞


1.(A)のスノコのゲタに角材をクギで取り付ける。クギ打ちの前にキリで穴を開けておく。		2.1.のスノコと、もう１枚(A)のスノコを向かい合わせになるように置き、1.のスノコにつけた角材をもう一方のスノコのゲタにクギで固定すると本体の完成。


3.もう１枚の(A)のスノコを2.の上にのせる。これが座面となる。座面を閉じた時に互いのゲタが重ならないように座面のゲタをカットする。		4.座面を閉じたら、背板となるスノコ(B)をＬ字金具で座面に木ネジで固定。体重がかかる部分なので反対側にも取り付けて頑丈に。


5.座面の2ケ所にあらかじめ蝶番を付けておき、最後に本体とジョイントする。		6.サイドの両面がぽっかり開いてしまうので、レンガを置いて目隠しにする。

リビング家具にしてもいいようなできあがり。表面はペンキを塗って色を付けてもよし、オイルステインを塗ってもいい。スノコ４枚とレンガと角材でできてしまうとはなんとも便利、安上がり。収納スペースがあるとはいえ、底板のない構造なので、室内に置くなら置く場所と中に入れるものに注意が必要。
